Locked

kids these days

Today I went to the grocery store with my twin sister. The deal was, I would make her whatever she wanted for dinner if she bought it. I thought it was fair.

It turned into a tutorial on how to grocery shop. We were laughing the whole way through the store. She's basically like a toddler. All she wanted was Wheat Thins, juice, Honey Nut Cheerios, and ice cream.

We are so different sometimes! It blows my mind. (but then, sometimes we're so alike, it also blows my mind. like how for the past two days, we've been quoting Taken "They're going to take you" and laughing hysterically. I guess you have to be there.)

I guided her through the store like she was a tourist from another planet and figured out what to make her that would be an actual meal, not kibbles n' bits and juice in a sippy cup.

Whole wheat penne with chicken, spinach and tomato cream sauce. She was happy, I was happy, it was a win.

{PS. For those who asked, commented or emailed about my recipe for the above - there is no real recipe. I didn't make the sauce from scratch really. 1 jar Barilla marinara (my fave) with 1 cup heavy cream, a handful of parm. Yummers. Then I carmelized 1/2 an onion, heated and drained about a cup of frozen spinach, and sauteed a chicken breast. Mix. Shovel into mouth.}

OMG, that looks SO freaking good. I'm a sucker for pastas w/ chicken. And a creamy tomato sauce? You had me at "they're going to take you".

I'd have to admit I'm like your sis. Chips, dip, easy mac and cereal. I suck at cooking.

First of all, that looks amazingly delicious.

Secondly, are you two really twins?!

mmmmm i love creamy tomato sauce! so much!

chuck's really bad at grocery shopping as well. i can usually leave him in front of something like coffee or nacho cheese and come back, thirty minutes later, all the grocery shopping done.

you are a very nice and PATIENT sister. a hahahhaha! and the meal looks pretty good but i can't seem to get my mouth around whole wheat pasta. but maybe i am doing something wrong or buying the wrong kind?

You guys all make me laugh. Love it.

Ali: We are really twins! I know...hard to believe. She's actually 2 minutes older.

Drollgirl: I don't really like whole wheat pasta either. It has a tougher texture, for sure. But Liz insisted on it. Meh. Tomato cream sauce makes anything better though!

THAT LOOKS AMAZING!!! did you make the sauce from scratch? reipe please my dear:)

Gabby said...

I did not make the sauce from scratch...I semi-homemade it! Barilla pasta sauce with 1 cup heavy cream and a handful of parm added. Plus I carmelized 1/2 an onion and added that. Yum.

I can make whole wheat pasta unhealthy. LOL

Holy moley can we make that deal? That looks unbelievable. How the heck do you make it? I am also a child when it comes to adult tasks, like shopping or cooking.

Yum, that sounds so lovely! Haha and it sounds like when I go food shopping with my sister. She will literally ignore everything we need to buy in favour of ice cream and coco pops.

Looks yum! I WISH I could cook without a recipe. Gosh, even when I do have a recipe half the time it still comes out unedible.

Whoooooaaaaa Baby! That pasta is making me sooooo hungry! The picture looks just like my favourite Penne alla Vodka recipe!

I want to grub on some of that! Tell Liz not to feel bad, I am not very good at grocery shopping either, I am just learnin' the ropes!
